Making Ringtones

Making Ringtones (cutting from your favourite songs)

Difficulty : Medium

Hey again... This is how you make ringtones from your favourite songs.

Step 1: Select the song which you want to edit... Have an idea of what part of the song you are going to cut off and make the ringtone..

*********
Normally ringtones vary from 30 secs to 60 secs. Of course people have full songs as their ringtones. But it so happens that sometimes you like the portion just one min before the song ends. These are the high pitch parts of the song which you would normally want to cut off.

*********

Step 2: Download a software called AUDACITY from the internet. Its free. You can find it here in the following link...

Click on the link. Your download must automatically begin.

*************
Audacity is a music editing and mixing tool and its a free software. You can cut and mix music. The level u use it depends on how much u are interested in music.
The software interface looks like this .... .

Step 3: Open the file you want to edit. After you have opened it. You should have something looking like this.

The waveform above is your song in a graphical representation. Click on the play button to play and listen to it... Now the tricky part is to play the song and remember the part of the waveform which represents the place you want to start cutting from and the place u want to mark as the end of the segment that you wanted to cut. It normally takes a little practice. But then... Youll get a hang of it...

Step 4: Select the part of the song which u want to cut by click and dragging the mouse across the waveform.

you should have something like this...

Step 5: Cut this part out by going to EDIT and clicking on CUT.
Step 6: Open a new file and paste it
Step 7: Save the new file as a wave file (since u cannot decode it straight away to mp3 with audacity)
Step 8: Later convert this file to an mp3 file. (i recommend FORMAT FACTORY for this).
